ADF condemns Spaza attacks in South Africa

Written by on October 18, 2024

The Africa Diaspora Forum (ADF) has expressed deep concern regarding the recent tensions between South Africans and migrant-owned businesses, particularly among native black South Africans and businesses of color.

In a statement, the Forum underlined that these tensions often stem from issues related to business conduct and adherence to health standards. It is alarming that protests, initially sparked by injury and loss of life in the Spaza sector, could devolve into racketeering and solicitation.

The ADF emphasized the importance of enforcing law and order while ensuring that all businesses, including migrant-owned ones, comply with South African laws. The statement highlighted that targeting businesses for looting or prejudice based solely on their ownership is unjust.

It also called for calm and adherence to the law by all parties involved, asserting that misconduct should not be attributed solely to migrants.
