Zimbabwe Rugby Rolls Out Coach Development Programme

Over 100 aspiring rugby coaches recently attended a free Level 1 coaching course at Hartsfield Stadium in Bulawayo, funded by Zimbabwe Rugby and supported by World Rugby.

This course is part of a wider initiative aimed at increasing the number of qualified rugby coaches across the country.

The programme, facilitated by Rueben Kumpasa, is designed to expand the coaching pool by more than 1,000 by next year. It has already been rolled out in several regions, including Gweru, Beitbridge, and Shurugwi, with further expansion planned to reach more areas.

Speaking during the Bulawayo programme Kumpasa said by empowering local coaches, Zimbabwe Rugby aims to strengthen the sport at the grassroots level, ensuring wider access to qualified coaching for players across the country.

This initiative is expected to boost participation and improve the overall standard of rugby in Zimbabwe.

With backing from World Rugby, the programme is a significant step in addressing the shortage of trained coaches. The long-term goal is to create a sustainable framework that will support the growth and development of rugby throughout Zimbabwe, especially in underserved communities.
