The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has officially named the suspects involved in last week’s USD $4.4 million Ecobank heist in Bulawayo, the largest bank robbery in Zimbabwean history.
The suspects have been identified as Elijah Vumbunu, also known as Mupositori, David Sawadye, Israel Zulu, Kudakwashe Mudzingwa (Umbro), Takafa Vumbunu (Naison Mahembe), Paul Chinake, and Brian Murape. In a bid to apprehend the suspects, ZRP has partnered with Interpol and the South African police.
During a police and media interface at Rosecamp in Bulawayo, Commissioner Wiklef Makamache confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
The robbers are also linked to a previous heist involving a gold transit vehicle from How Mine to Fidelity Printers and Refiners in 2022. Police suspect the gang consists of Zimbabwean nationals residing in South Africa, who fled there after the recent robbery.
