A Lupane woman has been sentenced to five years in prison, with three years suspended, for attempting to kill a 24-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter by setting their hut on fire.
The shocking incident occurred in Mlonyeni Village, under Chief Mabhikwa, on the 29th of August 2024.
Thobekile Ncube, 38, was found guilty by the Hwange Magistrates Court after an investigation revealed she deliberately set the fire that put the lives of the young mother and her child at risk.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NAPZ), the victims narrowly escaped the blaze, managing to flee with some belongings before the hut was completely engulfed in flames, fortunately surviving the attack.
Ncube’s arrest and subsequent conviction followed a thorough investigation by authorities.
She was then sentenced to five years in prison, where three years were suspended, meaning she will serve two years behind bars.
