Seven Die from Diarrhoea as Cases Continue to Rise, Ministry Reports

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has reported seven deaths attributed to diarrhoea for the week ending 1 December 2024, marking a spike from two deaths recorded in the previous report dated 24 November.

The cumulative figures have also risen, with 335,191 reported cases and 171 deaths, up from 328,038 cases and 164 deaths in the last surveillance report.

The seven deaths were recorded at various hospitals, including two at United Bulawayo Hospitals, two at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, and one each at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Ruwa Local Board, and in Kwekwe District, Midlands Province.

The report further highlighted a concerning trend, with 59% of the cases involving children under five years of age, up from 46% previously, emphasizing the vulnerability of young children to the disease.
