Written by on February 26, 2025

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) region is well-prepared to handle cross-border disease outbreaks, drawing from past lessons.

Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, revealed this during a Post-Cabinet Briefing on Tuesday. He noted that the region has responded swiftly to outbreaks this year and is witnessing an increase in diseases like Mpox and Marburg virus, which are believed to be spreading due to climate change.

Honourable Mombeshora explained that the purpose of recent meetings with other countries was to share information on cross-border disease outbreaks and strengthen health systems.

Zimbabwe is hosting a four-day SADC Cluster Ministerial Meeting to discuss disaster management, meteorological strategies, and climate resilience, enhancing regional socio-economic growth. The region is now ready to tackle cross-border disease outbreaks.
