Pope Leo XIV Inaugurated as 267th Pope, Vows to Work for Unity and Peace

Pope Leo XIV, history’s first American pope, was inaugurated as the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church in a grand ceremony at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City yesterday.
During his inaugural Mass, Pope Leo vowed to work towards unity, aiming to make the Catholic Church a symbol of peace in the world.
In his message of communion, Pope Leo emphasized the importance of unity, setting the tone for his papacy, which is expected to focus on promoting peace and unity globally.
The ceremony, attended by an estimated 250,000 people, including world leaders and dignitaries, marked the official beginning of Pope Leo’s ministry as the bishop of Rome.
Vice President Gen. (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga, representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa was in attendance accompanied by his wife Col Miniyothabo Chiwenga and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira.
