Minister Murwira: Heritage-Based Education 5.0 Key to Tourism Growth

Professor Amon Murwira, the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, emphasized the critical role of education in fueling national development at the Sanganai/Hlanganani Scholastica tourism conference.

He highlighted that a well-structured education system is essential for a nation to thrive and effectively address the needs of its people.

Heritage-Based Education 5.0 is a  Cornerstone for Tourism Murwira underscored the significance of Heritage-Based Education 5.0, an outcome-oriented approach centered on generating goods and services, in supporting industries like tourism.

This approach equips the tourism sector with the skills and knowledge it needs to flourish.

The Minister also stressed the importance of collaboration between the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education and the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

These partnerships are vital in developing the necessary human capital infrastructure for the tourism industry.

Several successful collaborations were highlighted:
The refurbishment of Hotel St Patricks.
The establishment of hospitality schools   at multiple universities and polytechnics.
The Bingwa Ecotourism and Wildlife Innovation and Industrial Park at Lupane State University, which offers training in tourism, game drives, and more.

These initiatives demonstrate the positive impact of cooperation between education and tourism. They provide the necessary skills and infrastructure to support the growth of the tourism sector in Zimbabwe.
