Written by Staff Reporter on May 29, 2026
Students from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Staff College are undertaking an educational tour of Parliament as part of efforts to deepen their understanding of governance systems, legislative processes and public sector leadership.
The visit brings together participants from the Senior Management Development Course in Corrections and the Management and Leadership Development Course in Corrections, who are engaging with the operational framework of Zimbabwe’s legislative institution to enhance their professional capacity in correctional administration.
The educational programme is designed to expose correctional officers to the workings of Parliament, providing them with critical insight into how laws are crafted, debated and enacted, as well as the oversight role played by legislators in shaping national governance and public institutions.
During the tour, participants are expected to interact with parliamentary processes and gain first-hand appreciation of the relationship between legislation, justice administration and correctional services, an understanding regarded as vital for senior officers entrusted with leadership responsibilities.
The initiative reflects growing emphasis on professional development within the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, as authorities continue to prioritise leadership training, institutional excellence and broader appreciation of the country’s governance architecture.
By exposing correctional officers to the legislative system, the programme is expected to strengthen strategic decision-making and policy implementation within correctional institutions, while fostering greater collaboration between justice-sector institutions in pursuit of national development objectives.
The visit also underscores the importance of continuous learning and inter-institutional engagement in building a well-informed, effective and forward-looking corrections leadership capable of responding to evolving national priorities.
