Highlanders FC Denies Match Boycott, Backs Fan-Led Fundraising Event

Highlanders FC has confirmed it will not boycott the crucial league match against ZPC Kariba this Sunday, despite a parallel fundraising event organized by supporters.
The club clarified its position in response to widespread speculation, affirming that it will fully participate in the match at Barbourfields Stadium while supporting the initiative led by fans at the clubhouse.
The supporters’ event is aimed at raising funds to help settle a USD 6,000 fine imposed on Highlanders after incidents during a Chibuku Super Cup match against Simba Bhora at Wadzanayi Stadium. Instead of attending the match, fans plan to gather at the clubhouse, with gate fees and donations redirected to aid the club.
Highlanders FC CEO, Sihlangu Dlodlo, reiterated that while the club is aware of the fan-organized event, it remains fully committed to its on-field obligations.
In a separate statement released last night, the club further stressed that the fundraiser, organized under Article 4:3 of the Highlanders FC constitution, is strictly focused on football, with no political undertones.
The club also addressed security concerns surrounding the event, expressing confidence in the organizers’ ability to ensure safety. Highlanders emphasized its commitment to compliance with both club regulations and national laws, supporting the fundraising effort while prioritizing the upcoming match.
