The government has launched a new initiative, “Internet in a Box,” aimed at providing internet access to schools across Zimbabwe. The program uses satellite-connected routers, enabling students within 100 to 200 meters to easily access online educational materials like notes and assignments.
Nick Mangwana, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, announced that a new Starlink licensing policy has been approved as part of a broader plan to support online learning. This policy will make affordable internet access available to even the most remote schools.
Additionally, the government is working on establishing the Zimbabwe Information Technology Company (ZITCO), which will manufacture computers and tech devices at lower prices to promote inclusive education.
This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Education 5.0 and introduce a heritage-based curriculum to produce well-rounded learners.
