The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), with funding from the Italian government, has launched two major projects to boost climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
The initiatives the Agricultural Development and Trade ZIM-MOZA ATDP and Sustainable Management of Forest Resources FAO-AICS Miombo aim to promote regional agricultural trade and conserve the Miombo woodlands.
Environment Permanent Secretary Ambassador Tedious Chifamba described the Miombo woodlands as “climate assets” vital to green recovery and rural livelihoods, while Agriculture Permanent Secretary Professor Obert Jiri emphasised the importance of regional cooperation for smallholder farmers’ participation in global value chains.
Italian Ambassador Umberto Malnati and FAO’s Dr Patrice Talla Takoukam reaffirmed their commitment to inclusive development and sustainability.
The Miombo woodlands, one of Africa’s largest dry forests, support over 300 million people across the region.
