The Ministry of Energy and Power Development, in partnership with the World Bank and with support from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) and the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), yesterday hosted a National Consultation Indaba aimed at finalising Zimbabwe’s National Energy Compact.
The high-level engagement brought together a wide range of stakeholders from across the energy sector to collaboratively chart a bold and inclusive pathway towards achieving universal access to modern, clean, and affordable energy by 2030.
Zimbabwe’s National Energy Compact is aligned with the country’s Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which seeks to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
The compact provides a strategic framework to tackle Zimbabwe’s energy challenges, including aging infrastructure, limited electricity generation capacity, and inadequate access to electricity, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
