Mali Dissolves All Political Parties and Organizations
Written by Staff Reporter on May 15, 2025
Mali’s transitional government has officially dissolved all political parties and organizations of a political nature, further tightening control amid ongoing military rule.
The move was announced through a presidential decree read on state television, banning all political gatherings, leadership functions, and support activities related to the dissolved entities.
This follows last week’s suspension of political operations, marking another shift away from democratic processes in the West African nation, which has been under military rule since coups in 2020 and 2021.
While the administration had promised to return to civilian rule by March 2024, elections were postponed indefinitely. Mali, along with Burkina Faso and Niger, is part of the Alliance of Sahel States formed in 2023 to strengthen regional cooperation under military leadership.
