Deputy Minister Mnangagwa Officiates World Tourism Day Symposium at Lupane State University

The Deputy Mnister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Tongai Mnangagwa officiated the World Tourism Day Symposium hosted at Lupane State University on 19th of September 2024.
The event was running under the theme “Tourism and Peace.” The objective of the symposium was to bring together stakeholders from the tourism industry, academia, and government to explore the pivotal role tourism plays in promoting peace and conflict resolution.
In his keynote Deputy Minister of Tourism, Hon. Tongai Mnangagwa, representing the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi stated that for the past nine months Tourism has been number one contributor to the fiscuss by 12% announced by the Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube.
He said tourism is doing very well, as is an act of achieving vision 2030 and the target of 5 billion tourism economy by 2025emphasising that these sectors are very big.
The deputy Minister Tongai Mnangagwa also paid tribute to the first Lady with the initiatives of the Gastronomy and The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi.
The symbolic relationship between tourism and academics is the toll for social and economic growth of nations characterized by the dynamism nature of environment and the role of research remains critical to ensure sustainability in the economic sector including the tourism sector.
Adding that tourism symposium is a platform presented to interact, share and enhance knowledge amongst key stakeholders based on research from tourism innovators.
The deputy minister Honorable Tongai Mnangagwa also highlighted the journey of the upper middle class income society by 2030 which is the president’s vision.
In his conclusion the Deputy Minister invited renowned universities from across Zimbabwe to participate, including Chinhoyi University of Technology, Midlands State University, the University of Zimbabwe, and the hosts Lupane State University.
These institutions shared their expertise and research findings, providing valuable insights into the relationship between tourism and peace.
