Zimbabwe Kicks Off Historic African FootGolf Open in Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe—The African FootGolf Association African Open officially began, at the Elephant Hills Golf Course in the City of Victoria Falls, marking a significant milestone for the sport on the continent. The event, a prestigious FIFG 500 tournament, was launched with an inspiring vote of thanks from the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) Board Chairperson, Dr. Nathaniel Madzivanyika.
In his address, Dr. Madzivanyika extended gratitude to the event’s dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North, Hon. Richard Moyo, and the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Tongai Mnangagwa.
The SRC Chairperson praised the Zimbabwean government’s commitment to the sport, particularly thanking the Guest of Honour (the deputy Minister) for his inspiring words which “set the tone for a tournament that is visionary and positions Zimbabwe and Africa boldly on the global FootGolf map”.
The international confidence in the host country was also highlighted, with a special thank you to the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG) and its President, Mr. Aleks Kravanja, for trusting Africa and Zimbabwe to host the event. “Your trust has made this moment possible,” Dr. Madzivanyika noted.
He further commended the rapid progress of the sport within the nation. “Footgolf in Zimbabwe, has moved tremendously fast to establish itself in communities, which is commendable and worthy of a mention,” said Dr Madzivanyika. Appreciation was also extended to the African FootGolf Association and its President, Norman Mphake, for his “leadership and unwavering belief in the potential of our continent”.
The successful launch was attributed to the collaborative effort of various stakeholders:
Addressing the participating athletes, Dr. Madzivanyika emphasized the historical weight of their presence. “Your presence here marks the beginning of a powerful legacy for FootGolf on this continent”.
He wished the participants “fair play, great competition, and unforgettable memories to the soundtrack of the magnificent Victoria Falls”.
Concluding his remarks, the SRC Chairperson invited visitors to enjoy the nation’s hospitality, stating, “May your time in Zimbabwe be filled with warmth, adventure, and the best hospitality our country is known for”. The tournament officially commenced with a call to uphold the “spirit of unity, excellence, and innovation that this sport represents”.
