New Victoria Falls Councillors Sworn In, Pledge Improved Service Delivery

VICTORIA FALLS – Newly elected councillors for Wards 9, 10 and 11 in Victoria Falls have been officially sworn into office, pledging to prioritise service delivery and work collaboratively for the development of the city.

The swearing-in ceremony took place during Special Council Meeting Number 36/2026, held in the Council Boardroom and presided over by Town Clerk Mr Ronnie Dube. The ceremony follows the by-elections conducted on 1 August 2026.

In accordance with Section 47(3) of the Urban Councils Act, the councillors—George Mhlanga (Ward 11), Thindolie Sibanda (Ward 10), and Tapiwa Sibanda (Ward 9)—took their oath of loyalty and office before assuming their duties.

Speaking after his swearing-in, Ward 11 Councillor George Mhlanga committed to working closely with fellow councillors and council management to improve service delivery in his ward. Ward 10 Councillor Thindolie Sibanda expressed gratitude to residents for entrusting him with leadership, while Ward 9 Councillor Tapiwa Sibanda pledged to represent all stakeholders in his ward and across the city.

In his address, Town Clerk Mr Ronnie Dube emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration among councillors in delivering effective governance and services to residents.

Victoria Falls Mayor, His Worship Councillor Prince Thuso Moyo, congratulated the newly elected officials and called for a spirit of teamwork and dedication.

“Today we welcome Councillors Tapiwa Sibanda, Thindolie Sibanda and George Mhlanga representing Wards 9, 10 and 11 to serve this Council. The oath you have taken binds you to serve with integrity, diligence and commitment to the people who entrusted you with responsibility,” he said.

“On behalf of the Council and residents at large, I welcome you to the team and congratulate you once again on your election. I urge you to work with us as one team to deliver quality services. Today we place our individual and political differences aside and work towards the development of our beautiful city.”

The ceremony was attended by residents and representatives from various political parties, reflecting broad community interest in the leadership transition.

Following the swearing-in, the new councillors are expected to undergo an induction programme to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills for their roles.

The addition of the three councillors is expected to strengthen council operations and enhance service delivery across Victoria Falls.
