ZUJ Engages Police Chief on Media Relations

The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) met Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba to discuss media-law enforcement relations under his leadership.

Led by ZUJ Secretary General Perfect Hlongwane, the meeting included representatives from the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) – Zimbabwe Chapter and the Media Alliance of Zimbabwe (MAZ). An official statement from ZUJ confirmed that discussions reviewed the 2017 ZRP/Media Action Plan, which improved cooperation and reduced violations against journalists.

Attendees proposed ongoing engagement, training for new media graduates and police cadets, and joint awareness campaigns on social issues. They also addressed cyberbullying against journalists, especially women, and stressed the importance of ethical journalism to combat misinformation.

The meeting marked a step toward strengthening media-police collaboration in Zimbabwe.
