Hon. Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira warmly welcomed Hon. Phenyo Butale, Botswana’s Minister of International Relations, who paid a courtesy call on the sidelines of the SADC Council of Ministers meeting which took place yesterday in Harare.
Their discussions centered on strengthening bilateral ties, fostering deeper collaboration in industrialization and trade, and leveraging the strong historical and cultural bonds shared by the two nations. Hon. Murwira praised the enduring people-to-people diplomacy that continues to shape and define Zimbabwe-Botswana relations.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic cooperation to complement their already solid political partnership. They explored ways to enhance trade and industrial integration, further cementing their shared vision for regional development.
Key among the discussions was the operationalization of previously signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and the implementation of the One-Stop Border Post at Plumtree. These initiatives are expected to facilitate smoother trade flows, enhance cross-border movement, and promote economic synergy between the two countries.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued engagement at the highest levels to ensure that agreements translate into tangible benefits for citizens. As Zimbabwe and Botswana reinforce their commitment to regional cooperation, their partnership remains a vital pillar in the broader SADC developmental agenda.
