ZNOART Calls for ZESA Board to Resign Amidst Power Challenges
Written by Staff Reporter on November 27, 2024
The Zimbabwe National Organization of Associations and Residents Trust (ZNOART) has called for the resignation of the ZESA Board and its top management.
This comes after yet another nationwide power outage, which ZESA attributed to a system disturbance.
While ZESA has since restored power to most areas, ZNOART says it is concerned with the utility company’s ongoing challenges and lack of progress.
Shalvar Chikomba, ZNOART National Chairman, highlighted that ZESA has struggled to fulfill its mandate and pointed to issues such as inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and outdated technology.
Mr. Chikomba further noted ZESA’s reliance on aging infrastructure, like water turbines, despite the country’s abundant solar energy potential. The organization also raised questions about recent investments, including the opening of units 7 and 8 at Hwange Power Station, urging ZESA to ensure such initiatives lead to tangible improvements.
As a non-political apex body representing Zimbabwean residents and associations, ZNOART is calling for practical solutions to the energy crisis. The organization is encouraging residents to engage constructively with ZESA and explore alternative energy options where possible.
