Zinara to De-Register Unlicensed Vehicles

Written by on December 17, 2024

The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has announced a de-registration exercise targeting vehicles that have been unlicensed for over two years. Vehicle owners have until December 22, 2024, to regularize their licenses and avoid having their vehicles deregistered.

In a statement on X, Zinara, alongside the Central Vehicle Registry, clarified that this move is in accordance with Section 2c of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act (Chapter 13:14), which allows for the cancellation of vehicle registrations that remain unlicensed or exempted for more than two years.

Zinara warned that outstanding arrears will not be waived and must be cleared before re-registration. Additionally, operating a de-registered vehicle is considered a criminal offense and can result in fines or imprisonment.

Motorists are urged to take advantage of the extended deadline to regularize their licenses and avoid the severe consequences of deregistration.
