The 2024 CAF Awards, held yesterday at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, celebrated the achievements of African footballers, with standout performances in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Southern Africa emerged as a dominant force, with Zambia’s Barbra Banda crowned Best Women’s Player in Africa. South Africa’s Rownen Williams made history by securing two accolades: Best Goalkeeper of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year. South Africa’s women’s team also had four nominees, alongside individual recognitions for Zambia and Malawi.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe, in his opening remarks, highlighted African football’s growing global prominence, expressing optimism about the continent’s potential to produce world champions.
Nigeria continued its stronghold in the men’s category, with Ademola Lookman winning Best Men’s Player of the Year, following Victor Osimhen’s win last year.
