ZIMTA Calls for Increased Funding of Public Education

The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) has issued a call for the government to increase the budget for public school funding.
During a recent parliamentary meeting, ZIMTA CEO Dr. Sifiso Ndlovu highlighted that a significant shortage of teachers in public schools, attributing this trend to many educators opting for positions in private institutions.
According to the United Nations Teaching Association, there has been a 15% decrease in budget allocations for public education funding over the past 40 years.
Additionally, it was noted that over 63% of students in Zimbabwe are enrolled in the public education system.
As the nation approaches the budget season for 2025, ZIMTA is urging parliament to prioritize funding for public education.
