The Rural Industrial Indaba took place today at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), bringing together government ministers to discuss investment opportunities in rural areas. The event ran under the theme “Inclusive Growth, Industrial Roots: Unlocking Zimbabwe’s Rural Potential.”

Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution from eight provinces outlined how their regions contribute to the national GDP and presented various investment prospects.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube, who officiated as guest of honour, noted that 70% of Zimbabwe’s population lives in rural areas. She emphasized that the country’s economy is anchored in agriculture and mining — sectors largely based in rural communities.

Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu, urged provincial leaders in rural areas to intensify development efforts, highlighting their currently low contribution to the national GDP.

Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa, drew lessons from her recent visit to China. She praised the effectiveness of China’s SME sector and expressed confidence that Zimbabwe could replicate similar successes.
