The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has reassured the public about the safety of Zimbabweans living and working in the Middle East, amidst recent tensions in the region.
In a statement, the Ministry’s Spokesperson Philisiwe Chidawanyika confirmed that all Zimbabwean citizens who had reached out to the country’s embassies in the affected countries are accounted for and safe.
She indicated that the government remains committed to protecting its citizens abroad, as mandated by Section 35, subsection 3 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. This includes offering consular services, facilitating repatriation, and evacuation of citizens in distress situations.
She encouraged Zimbabwean citizens to register their presence in foreign countries with the nearest Zimbabwean embassy to ensure effective communication and provision of necessary services, citing that this allows the government to provide timely assistance in case of emergencies.
