Zimbabwe is set to host the 28th edition of the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (ESARBICA) in 2025.
The event, a biannual conference focused on archive and records management, will bring together delegates from across the region to share knowledge and best practices in preserving archival materials.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, which was initially asked to host the event in 2015 following the successful ESARBICA conference in Victoria Falls, had submitted a proposal to the cabinet. The proposal has now been approved, paving the way for Zimbabwe to host the prestigious event.
During the 34th cabinet briefing held on Tuesday, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Hon. Kazembe Kazembe, highlighted that hosting ESARBICA presents an opportunity to showcase Zimbabwe as a leading tourism destination. The event is also expected to strengthen international relations and potentially boost the economy.
The conference is expected to attract a delegation of 600 participants from 24 countries. To support preparations, Zimbabwe will receive a grant of 6,000 Euros.
