Zimbabwe’s under-20 men’s national team is set to face off against Zambia in the semi-finals of the COSAFA U-20 AFCON qualifiers tomorrow at 15:00 hours.
The Young Warriors have enjoyed an unbeaten run in Group A, securing two victories against Mozambique and Eswatini, alongside a draw with Botswana. Their impressive form sets the stage for a highly anticipated clash against Zambia’s Chipolopolo, a key Southern African football rivalry. In the other semi-final, South Africa’s U-20 team will take on Angola, with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 hours on the same day.
The winners of these semi-final matches will not only progress to the final but also earn automatic qualification for the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Southern Zone is allocated two spots in the tournament, with the victors from the semi-finals securing their places. The AFCON 2025 will feature 12 teams from six zones, all competing for the continental title.
The 12 qualifying teams will be divided into two groups, with the top four from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. Furthermore, the four semi-finalists of the Under-20 AFCON 2025 will qualify for the Under-20 FIFA World Cup 2025, set to be held in Chile.
Zimbabwe will be hoping to continue their strong form as they push towards both the AFCON and World Cup, with tomorrow’s encounter against Zambia marking a crucial step in their journey.
