The government has begun distributing grain to local chiefs under the Zunde raMambo/Isiphala Senkosi food program, aimed at providing relief to vulnerable families.
In Matebeleland North, District Administrator Matilda Mlotshwa explained that chiefs have played a crucial role in distributing the food to their respective wards, with headmen overseeing its allocation to villagers. Distribution is based on family needs and vulnerability levels.
The program has brought much-needed relief to communities in Matebeleland North, where many families have faced significant food insecurity. Mlotshwa cited that the initiative has been instrumental in alleviating hunger and improving the well-being of local residents.
Before the launch of this initiative, residents often had to travel long distances to access food aid, either through social welfare services or from their local chiefs.
