The Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa, has commended the government’s efforts to empower women across various sectors. Speaking at the Ministry’s strategic planning review workshop in Bulawayo, Minister Mutsvangwa highlighted the significant strides made from community to national levels in providing women with platforms to fully express their potential.
The Ministry has collaborated with other government departments to launch women-centric projects, such as the High Level Women in Leadership Summit. This initiative aims to promote solidarity among women leaders, facilitate the exchange of ideas, and share experiences regarding women’s participation in leadership, decision-making, and economic empowerment.
Over the past decade, there has been a notable increase in the number of women entering traditionally male-dominated industries. Currently, 32% of industrial work is managed by women, up from 21% in previous years. Additionally, women now hold 33% of parliamentary seats, a significant rise from the 14% recorded in 2010.
Minister Mutsvangwa’s remarks underscore the ongoing commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women in Zimbabwe.
