Zimbabwe Telecoms Tycoon Strive Masiyiwa Stresses Need for AI Skills in African Education

Zimbabwean international telecommunications tycoon and billionaire, Mr Strive Masiyiwa, has reiterated the urgent need for African education systems to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) skills and related education into their curricula.
Officiating at the Global AI Summit on Africa, Rwandan President Paul Kagame emphasised the importance of empowering the continent’s youth, strengthening cybersecurity, and investing in digital infrastructure to create a harmonised AI framework.
Also speaking at the summit, Mr Strive Masiyiwa stressed that education systems must evolve beyond basic literacy by prioritising Mathematics, Science, and Coding to remain relevant in the age of AI.
The Global AI Summit, which ends today, focused on the need for international collaboration, with African nations seeking to shape the global AI agenda. It also showcased Africa’s AI ecosystem, featuring startups and innovation hubs such as Co-Creation Hub Africa and AI Hub Senegal.
