Zimbabwe Republic Police Issues Warning on Proliferation of Firearms
Written by Staff Reporter on May 15, 2025
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over the proliferation of firearms countrywide, particularly those acquired illegally, which are contributing to the commission of serious crimes.
In a press statement, the ZRP advised the public that the regulation and issuance of firearm certificates is the sole responsibility of the Controller of Firearms.
ZRP noted that many firearms are being acquired illegally, exacerbating crime, with some firearm holders failing to renew their firearms and certificates, as well as notify authorities about changes in their addresses.
The ZRP emphasized the need for due diligence when acquiring firearms and urged the public to desist from illegal firearm dealing. In case of the death of a firearm holder, the firearm should be surrendered to the nearest police station pending regularization of new firearm ownership by an eligible person.
The ZRP urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities related to firearms.
