EcoCash Rolls Out Outbound International Money Transfer Service

Written by on May 15, 2025

Zimbabwe’s largest fintech platform, EcoCash, has introduced a new international money transfer service that enables customers to send money from Zimbabwe to a wide range of countries across Africa, Asia, and beyond.

The service now allows users to remit funds to destinations such as South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Lesotho, Uganda, China (via Alipay), and several others.

This development marks a major evolution for EcoCash, which has traditionally focused on inbound remittances. With the new capability, it expands into outbound transfers, offering users in Zimbabwe the ability to send money abroad with ease.

The platform is designed to provide fast, secure, and cost-effective remittance options for a range of needs, including school fees, healthcare, and business payments. Users can transfer funds directly to recipients’ bank accounts or mobile wallets. For instance, transfers can be made into Kenya’s M-Pesa wallet, and all South African banks have already been integrated into the system. More countries in Europe and Asia are expected to be included soon.

Given Zimbabwe’s significant diaspora population, the introduction of outbound transfers is seen as timely. There is growing demand for families to support children studying abroad, businesses to settle payments with foreign suppliers, and individuals to meet urgent cross-border expenses.

EcoCash’s digital-first approach is expected to challenge traditional money transfer services that rely on physical agent locations. By enabling direct transfers to accounts or wallets, the platform enhances convenience and speeds up processing, while offering users greater flexibility and savings.
