Zimbabwe Introduces Munhumutapa Day as New Public Holiday

The government of Zimbabwe has announced the addition of Munhumutapa Day as a new public holiday, slated for celebration on September 15, 2025.
This move is aimed at honoring the pre-colonial ruler Munhumutapa and President Mnangagwa’s vision for national development.
According to a statement, the new holiday is introduced in terms of Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act.
Notably, the President has the authority to declare additional public holidays throughout the year, as stipulated in Section 2(2) of the same Act.
The introduction of Munhumutapa Day brings to light the country’s rich history and cultural heritage. Munhumutapa was a renowned pre-colonial ruler who played a significant role in shaping the nation’s identity.
