Zimbabwe forecasts 6% economic growth despite drought challenges

Minister of Finance and Investment Promotion Mthuli Ncube has projected that the Zimbabwean economy will achieve close to 6% growth this year, despite facing challenges from late rains and dry spells that impacted agricultural production in 2024.
In an interview, Minister Ncube emphasized that recent rainfall has provided a much-needed boost to the agricultural sector, which had suffered a decline due to the El Niño-induced drought of the previous year.
Last year, the country experienced a severe drought, severely impacting agricultural output and productivity.
To mitigate the effects of the drought and support economic recovery, the government has implemented several key measures by providing critical farming inputs to smallholder farmers through the Intwasa/Pfumvudza program, which aimed to enhance agricultural productivity despite limited land and water resources.
The government further encouraged farmers to cultivate drought resistant crops, minimizing the impact of dry spells and ensuring a more stable income stream.
