Zimbabwe Embraces AI in Education While Upholding Cultural Values, Says Minister

In celebration of the International Day of Education, Hon. Torerayi Moyo, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, highlighted Zimbabwe’s commitment to integrating technology into education while preserving cultural values and promoting inclusivity.

This year’s theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” aligns with Zimbabwe’s efforts to incorporate technology into its education system. The Heritage-Based Curriculum (HBC) exemplifies this by blending the nation’s traditions, values, and history into the teaching and learning process.

The Minister outlined priorities such as empowering teachers with AI integration skills, expanding e-learning initiatives, promoting AI literacy, and developing ethical guidelines for AI use. Zimbabwe aims to create an inclusive, equitable education system that leverages technology while staying true to cultural values.
