ZIFA Elections set for tommorow

The stage is set for a thrilling contest as the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) executive committee elections take center stage in Harare this Saturday.

A total of nine positions are up for grabs, including the presidency, vice-presidency, and six committee member spots. In a significant move, one of the vice-presidency positions is reserved for a female candidate, promoting gender equality in the sport.

Six candidates are locked in a fierce battle for the presidency and these include former Dynamos forward Makwinje Phiri, UK-based football administrator Marshal Gore, former Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Twine Phiri, businessman Nqobile Magwizi, former ZIFA board member Philemon Machana and ZIFA Northern Region chairperson Martin Kweza.

The remaining two positions on the executive committee will be filled through secondment, with the Premier Soccer League and the Women Premier Soccer League each contributing a member.

Meanwhile, a total of 9 candidates are contesting for the vice presidency position. Amongst the candidates is the former PSL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kennedy Ndebele, who recently stepped down from his position to take part in tommorow’s polls. Other candidates include Mavis Gumbo, Peter Dube, Joyce R Kapota, Loveness Mukura, Winnet Murota, Francis Nyamutsamba and Patience Mutumwa.
