The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) have issued a strong warning against the misuse of social media by members of the public, including retired military personnel, and the unauthorized wearing of military uniforms.
The ZDF expressed concern over recent social media posts that could be misinterpreted as official statements on Zimbabwe’s political and economic climate. In a statement, the ZDF clarified that it communicates with the public through formal channels, not social media platforms.
Therefore, it disassociates itself from all social media utterances made by the public, including former members. Furthermore, the ZDF highlighted the continued misuse of military uniforms by civilians.
According to the Defence Act (Chapter 11:02), unauthorized wearing of military attire is an offense. The ZDF urged the public to refrain from acquiring or wearing military uniforms or similar apparel, emphasizing that offenders will face prosecution.
The ZDF appealed to the public to report anyone seen wearing military uniforms outside designated areas or committing crimes while impersonating ZDF members.
