Victoria Falls Parents Show Resilience in Paying School Fees Amidst Festive Spending

Written by on January 23, 2025

As schools reopened this January, parents in Victoria Falls are breathing a sigh of relief after digging deep to pay school fees for their children. Many admitted to splurging on the December festive holidays, but still managed to prioritise their children’s education.

According to Nozithelo Mguni, a parent of three primary school children, “It wasn’t easy to pay fees this January. I had to make ends meet and prioritise my children’s education.” Mguni, who works as a vendor in the town’s market, explained that she had to cut back on non-essential expenses to ensure her children’s fees were paid.

Another parent, Sipho Ncube, echoed Mguni’s sentiments. Ncube, a father of two, said, “I spent a significant amount on Christmas gifts and travels, but I was determined to find a way to pay my children’s school fees.” Ncube, who works as a tour guide, expressed pride in his ability to provide for his children’s education.

When asked about the parents’ efforts to pay school fees, a spokesperson for one of the local primary schools said, “We have been impressed by the parents’ determination to prioritise their children’s education, despite the challenges they faced after the festive season. It’s a testament to their commitment to their children’s future.”

The school’s administration also commended the parents for their proactive approach, saying, “We have seen many parents taking initiative to communicate with us about their financial constraints, and we are happy to work with them to find solutions. It’s a positive start to the new school term.”
