Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Launches Anti-Piracy Action Plan for Creative Industries

Today, the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, in partnership with the British Council, officially launched the Action Plan for the Anti-Piracy Strategy aimed at safeguarding Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). The launch, held under the theme ‘Unlocking the Value of IP for Creative and Cultural Activities,’ marks a pivotal step towards addressing piracy and promoting the growth of CCIs.

In his opening remarks, Permanent Secretary Mr. Nicholas Moyo emphasized the significance of this initiative in recognizing CCIs as key drivers of capital and economic growth. He further highlighted how this strategy aligns with the Ministry’s broader mandate to develop and implement policy frameworks that promote the advancement of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture.

The event was graced by notable figures, including the Chairperson of the Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, Honourable F. Jere, Honourable A. Mavunga, Director for Arts and Culture Dr. B. Samwanda, as well as the British Council and its partners. Also in attendance were the Executive Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Mr. R. Chikukwa, NACZ Director Mr. N. Nyanhi, representatives from various line Ministries, the Police, and a diverse group of artists and stakeholders in the cultural sector.
