Zimbabwe’s school sports sector has received a major boost after the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education entered into a US$200,000 partnership with Better Brands to revive grassroots athletics and strengthen youth talent development nationwide.
The landmark investment is set to rejuvenate the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) sports programme, long regarded as the backbone of Zimbabwe’s school sporting system and a breeding ground for many of the country’s elite athletes.
Officials said the funding will support nationwide school competitions, procurement of sporting equipment, and essential logistical requirements aimed at restoring organised sport across secondary schools.
Authorities believe the initiative will significantly widen access to structured sporting opportunities for learners, while creating clearer pathways for emerging athletes to progress to provincial, national, and professional levels.
Education and sports stakeholders welcomed the partnership as a critical intervention in rebuilding Zimbabwe’s school sports infrastructure, increasing participation among young people, and unlocking untapped talent from communities across the country.
The collaboration also highlights growing private sector involvement in youth empowerment initiatives, amid rising recognition of sport as a powerful driver of education, discipline, social inclusion, and future career opportunities for Zimbabwean youths.
