Town Clerk Ronnie Dube Suspended Amid Corruption Allegations

Written by on December 2, 2024

Victoria Falls City Town Clerk Ronnie Dube has been suspended amid allegations of corruption. This latest suspension, announced today, is closely linked to similar allegations that led to his suspension in April 2021.

A close source confirmed that the current suspension is due to ongoing concerns about corruption, particularly regarding the allocation of stands. The source revealed that a stand worth $14 million was sold for just $3.8 million, highlighting significant irregularities and corruption behind the scenes.

The Mayor of Victoria Falls, in a letter to Dube, outlined that the suspension was in response to several complaints received. The suspension was enacted under Section 139 of the Urban Councils Act Chapter 29:15. Allegations include the improper sale of stand 1829 in Chinotimba Township without following the correct procedures, and the funds from this sale were not accounted for.

Meanwhile, councillors are scheduled to hold a meeting tomorrow, 3 December 2024, to create a resolution in response to Ronnie Dube’s suspension. Mr. Ndolo, a member of The Victoria Falls Combined Residents Association (VIFACORA), stated, “This is the time for the councillors to stand with the residents. Now that Mr. Dube is suspended, they need to adopt a resolution and conduct further investigations.”

This development has raised serious concerns about governance and accountability within the Victoria Falls City Council. The community and stakeholders are now looking to the council for transparency and swift action to address these issues.
