As the United Nations (UN) observes the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Zimbabwe joins the global call to end violence against women and girls.

In an interview at Breeze FM in Victoria Falls, Mr. Isaac Dube, Director of Reach Out Trust, a community-based organization in Hwange District, emphasized the urgent need for collective action to combat gender-based violence.

“Gender-based violence is a serious issue in our country, and it’s crucial that we all work together to prevent it,” Mr. Dube stated.

Reach Out Trust is dedicated to preventing and responding to gender-based violence, early child marriages, and early pregnancies in Hwange District. The organization works in close collaboration with the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Victim Friendly Unit to provide vital support for survivors of abuse.

Mr. Dube also highlighted the significant role that institutions, especially churches, can play in addressing the issue.

“We encourage churches to do more than preach scriptures—it’s important that they also educate their congregations about the impact of gender-based violence,” said Mr. Dube.

In partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Reach Out Trust also focuses on empowering women by educating them about their fundamental rights.

As Zimbabwe joins the global movement for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Mr. Dube called for everyone to contribute to the fight against this pervasive issue.

“We must challenge the social and cultural norms that sustain gender-based violence, support survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and promote gender equality in all spheres of life,” he urged.

If you or someone you know is a survivor of gender-based violence, support is available through the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Victim Friendly Unit and organizations like Reach Out Trust.
