The government has made strides in boosting the power supply in the country with the commissioning of Titan New Energy, Dinson, and Afrochine energy power plant in Hwange.
The Titan Thermal Power Plant will generate a total of 720 megawatts of electricity, whilst Afrochine will contribute 100 megawatts through a solar PV project in Selous and investors from Titan will undertake the Jinan 200 megawatts Solar Power Plant in Gweru.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony yesterday President Mnangagwa said that the support and promotion of projects of this nature are part of the government’s efforts for increasing the installed power generating capacity through the construction of new power plants.
Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Executive Chairman Dr. Sydney Gata emphasized that upon completion the projects will reduce load shedding in the country and the initiatives are part of the 18 projects which are currently being undertaken to solve power issues.
The projects are expected to be completed by December 2025,and are expected to transform the country’s electricity generation in line with the recently launched National Energy Efficiency Policy which aims to promote energy efficiency across various sectors, by reducing energy consumption and mitigating climate change.
