A Tag Rugby tournament was held today at Chamabondo Primary School in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe today. The event was organized by the Tag Rugby Trust, a non-profit organization that uses the sport as a tool to engage with local communities.
According to Tinashe Wanda, Area Manager for the Tag Rugby Trust, the organization has been conducting a week-long coaching clinic in Victoria Falls. Volunteers from all ten provinces of Zimbabwe participated in the clinic, which included visits to local primary schools such as Chamabondo, Chinotimba, and Baobab.
“We use Tag Rugby as a way to reach out to communities and keep children off the streets, away from bad habits,” Wanda explained. “We also identify young leaders and teach them how to coach Tag Rugby, so they can go back to their local schools and share their knowledge with others.”
The tournament brought together students from various primary schools in Victoria Falls, providing a fun and interactive way for them to engage with each other and develop their teamwork and sports skills. Hence the tournament achieved its goal of bringing in communities together to interact and unite through sport.
Wanda encouraged the local community to support the children in their Tag Rugby endeavors, highlighting the importance of social interaction and shared experiences in the development of young people.
The Tag Rugby Trust’s initiative in Victoria Falls is part of a broader effort to promote the sport and its values throughout Zimbabwe.
