Supreme court dismisses Ephias Mambune’s plea

The Supreme Court has dismissed Ephias Mambune’s plea to disqualify him as a nominated candidate for Ward 1 of Victoria Falls Municipality.
This decision upholds the initial ruling made by the high court on 18 November, which recognized Tonderai Mutasa of ZANU PF as the duly elected councillor for Ward 1 in Victoria Falls.
According to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) CEO Utoile Silaigwana, Mambune’s application sought to reconsider his position as a councillor. However, the court dismissed his plea, citing unpaid bills owed to the local authority as the reason.
As a result, the scheduled by-elections that were scheduled for this weekend will proceed as planned.
