The Parliament of Zimbabwe has issued an apology to President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the power cut that occurred on Thursday at the new Parliament building during the 2025 National Budget Presentation which was attended by his Excellency.
The power outage took place during the closing remarks of Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube’s 2025 National Budget Presentation.
In a statement, the Parliament revealed that thunderstorms and high winds affected overhead lines resulting in tripping of 132 kilovolts (kv) feeder that supplies power to a substation which feeds Mt Hampden.
Additionally, the Parliament further revealed that the alternative generator meant to automatically restore power was also affected by the same problem leading it to lose its memory settings and operate properly.
