A Powerful Gathering for Change: Fitness Against Drug Abuse and Cancer Awareness

Written by on December 1, 2024

The sun beamed brightly over Pick and Pay Parking Lot in Victoria Falls as students, teachers, and community members gathered for a significant event aimed at addressing two pressing issues: drug abuse and cancer awareness. The event, aptly named Fitness Against Drug Abuse and Cancer Awareness, themed ‘’making a difference’’ was organized by the dynamic Lycan Clifford White, a passionate advocate for healthy living and community empowerment. The day’s program was packed with thought-provoking discussions, powerful performances, and inspiring speeches.

One of the most memorable moments of the event was the stunning drama play performed by the students of Chamabondo Primary School. The young actors took to the stage with powerful energy, using their voices and expressions to deliver a hard-hitting message about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of cancer awareness.

As the event neared its climax, all eyes were on the guest of honor, Mr. Blessing Munyenyiwa. Mr. Munyenyiwa, Victoria Falls’ innovator, conservationist and a man with a mission, took the stage with a calm and authoritative presence. In his speech, Mr. Munyenyiwa focused on the psychological and emotional dimensions of drug abuse and cancer. “We must understand that addiction is not just a physical ailment,” he said. “It affects the mind, the spirit, and the entire community. It’s important for us to support those who are struggling, to educate our youth, and to create safe spaces for conversations around mental health.”

In keeping with the event’s theme of fitness, the program also included a series of fun and engaging fitness activities aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles as a means of prevention. Participants took part in group exercises, including aerobics, zumba, boxing, kata, step, fun run, and team-building activities. The atmosphere was one of joy and energy, as everyone, from the youngest child to the oldest adult, participated enthusiastically.

As the event drew to a close, Lycan Clifford White thanked everyone for their participation, stressing that this was just the beginning of a larger movement. He urged everyone to take the lessons learnt today and use them to foster change within their families and communities. The day ended with a powerful call to action: to stay informed, stay healthy, and, most importantly, to support one another in the fight against drug abuse and cancer.
