South African Drug Dealer Sentenced to 28 Months in Zimbabwe

Onwell Mugariri, a 27-year-old man from Messina, South Africa, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for drug trafficking. Mugariri was arrested on 12 December 2024 while attempting to cross into Zimbabwe with 1,666 kilograms of dagga, valued at $166 USD.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe confirmed that Mugariri was apprehended with the drugs in a green satchel. Mugariri pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months in prison, with 8 months suspended for 5 years.

This case underscores the persistent challenge of drug trafficking and serves as a stark warning about the risks associated with drug-related activities, particularly to young people.
