The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA) Summit has kicked off in Harare, marking 25 years of cross-border conservation collaboration. The five-day event brings together regional leaders to deliberate on key issues including biodiversity, sustainable development, and community participation in environmental stewardship.

Addressing delegates at the summit, the Director of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources at the SADC Secretariat, Mr. Domingos Gove, cited unstable funding as a major challenge to conservation efforts. He proposed leveraging tourism revenues to support both conservation initiatives and human development.

Gove also emphasized the significance of inter-regional tourism, revealing that intra-African travel accounted for 44% of tourist arrivals in 2019. He noted that the summit underscores the vital link between conservation and economic growth in the SADC region, with tourism playing a pivotal role.
