Written by on June 25, 2025

The 30th Regional Adjudication Committee meeting of the SADC Media Awards officially commenced in Harare yesterday, with Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, officiating the ceremony.

The meeting brought together adjudicators from all SADC member states, who participated virtually. In his opening remarks, Mr. Mangwana underscored the vital role of the media in today’s fast-evolving information landscape.

He also highlighted the growing threat of fake news and misinformation, noting how these phenomena erode public trust and undermine the credibility of journalism. The SADC Media Awards, he said, seek to celebrate and promote journalistic excellence across the region.

The committee will deliberate on entries and select winners across various categories. The SADC Media Awards remain instrumental in advancing quality journalism and upholding professional standards in the region.
